Control Cult changes your controller layouts by talking with you. To do that it has to see what you say, what's on your controller setup, and sometimes your screen. This page lists what that includes and who else receives it.
What we collect
- Your conversation. What you type or say to the assistant, and its replies. We keep the recent history so the assistant can pick up where you left off. Older items drop off over time.
- Pictures. Controller diagrams the assistant shows you, and screenshots you take on purpose so it can read a game's controls screen. It looks at them when seeing your screen would help, and asks before deleting any from your library.
- Your Steam Input setup. The game you're playing, your controller type, and the layout files for that game. The PC app reads them, and the assistant sees what it needs to make your change. It never edits your own layout files. Every change is saved as a new version you can undo.
- Account details. The name on your invite, your PC's name, and the names of phones you pair. Access tokens are stored as hashes, not in readable form.
- Usage counts. How many AI calls, tokens and changes each PC makes per day, and what that cost. We use it to set fair limits and to price the app. We also count how often spoken replies are heard to the end or cut off, without keeping what was said.
- Feedback you send. Reports from the Feedback tab become issues in a private GitHub repository. They include your recent conversation, the game, your controller and the app version, so the problem can be reproduced.
- Email you send us. Your address and what you write.
What stays on your PC
Your Steam files, your layouts, and what the app learns about your setup live on your computer. When the app learns how a game's controls work, the game's control map can be shared so other players benefit. That contains the game and its controls, not your name or your layouts.
Who else receives it
- Anthropic. The assistant is Claude. Your messages, the tool results it needs (such as layout contents) and any pictures it reads are sent to Anthropic to produce a reply.
- OpenAI. Only if you use voice. Your speech is sent to turn it into text, and replies are sent to be read aloud. Live voice streams your audio to OpenAI during the session.
- Cloudflare. Hosts the website, the service behind the app, and its storage, and routes email sent to us.
- GitHub. Holds feedback reports and the app's updates.
Those companies have their own terms and privacy policies, and what they do with data is up to them under those terms. We don't sell your data and we don't show ads.
This website
No cookies, no analytics, no ad trackers, and the fonts are hosted here. Cloudflare keeps ordinary request records, like IP address and page requested, to run and secure the site.
On your phone
The phone app keeps its pairing key and your settings in your browser's storage on that device. Clearing the site's data signs you out.
Your choices
- Say "undo" to reverse a layout change, or ask the assistant to start the conversation over.
- Ask us to remove a PC or phone, and its access stops.
- Email us to see what we hold about you, or to have it deleted: hello@controlcult.com.
